Enphase “DC Resistance Low – Power Off”: What It Means

By Renew Solar Services
Updated October 20, 2026

Quick answer

“DC Resistance Low – Power Off” means an Enphase microinverter has detected that the resistance between its solar-panel (DC) inputs and ground has dropped below a threshold, so it shut itself off. That one microinverter — and its panel — stops producing. The condition stays latched until it’s reset with installer tools, and it won’t clear if the underlying problem is still there.

This event usually points to a wiring, connector, moisture or panel-insulation problem that has to be found and repaired before the microinverter will stay back in service. Renew Solar Services is authorized to service and repair Enphase systems throughout Nassau and Suffolk County.

Enphase’s IQ8 manual says a solid red status LED (when DC power has been cycled) indicates this event on all IQ Series models, including IQ7. Older M215/M250 microinverters use different wording and LED meanings — don’t assume a red light on an older unit means the same condition.

What Enphase says it means

The microinverter measures the resistance from its PV input to ground. If that resistance falls below a threshold, it stops producing power, the LED shows solid red, and the IQ Gateway keeps reporting the event until it’s cleared. Enphase notes that even if the cause was temporary, the condition persists until the sensor is manually reset.

Common causes (from Enphase’s documentation)

  • Defective module insulation
  • Defective wiring or connectors
  • Moisture getting into a connection
  • A similar insulation problem

What to note before you call

  • In the Enphase App, note which microinverter or panel position is affected and when its production stopped.
  • Count how many are affected. One microinverter points to a problem at that panel; several at once tells a technician something different.
  • Note the weather when it started (rain, snow melt, storms).

Clearing this event isn’t a homeowner step. Some Enphase events clear on their own once the underlying problem is fixed; Enphase says this one stays latched until it’s reset through an IQ Gateway with installer tools (the Enphase Installer Platform or Installer App), and it won’t stay cleared while the cause remains. Don’t go on the roof, and don’t touch panels, connectors or microinverters. Enphase states its microinverters contain no user-serviceable parts and should only be serviced by qualified personnel.

When to call a professional

Call a professional whenever this event appears. The cause has to be found and repaired first — Enphase notes the condition won’t clear while it’s still present — and the reset itself is an installer-level step. If the event comes back after a reset, the fault is still there and needs further troubleshooting.

How it’s usually repaired

A technician checks the affected panel’s wiring and connectors and the panel itself for insulation damage or moisture, and repairs what they find — such as a damaged connector or a section of cable. A panel or microinverter is replaced only if testing shows it has failed. After the repair, the event is reset through the Gateway; if it doesn’t hold, the fault is still present and troubleshooting continues. Enphase microinverters have no user-serviceable parts and opening one voids the warranty, so a failed unit is replaced rather than opened.
