SunPower PVS6 or PVS5 Offline: Monitoring Not Reporting

By Renew Solar Services
Updated October 20, 2026

Quick answer

If your SunPower monitoring shows the system offline, it usually means the PVS5 or PVS6 monitoring unit has lost its connection — SunStrong calls this “Internet Communication Down.” SunStrong notes the panels may still be producing power; you just can’t see the data. Since April 15, 2025, these systems can no longer report over cellular, so they need Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz), Ethernet or power-line communication to stay online.

If your SunPower monitoring is still offline after the basic checks below, Renew Solar Services can inspect the equipment, diagnose the communication problem and lay out the repair options. We service legacy SunPower systems throughout Nassau and Suffolk County.

SunStrong Management now supports the former mySunPower app for many former SunPower customers, through its SunStrong Connect app.

What SunStrong says it means

“Internet Communication Down” happens when the monitoring device can’t reach your home network (or, before April 2025, its cellular backup). SunStrong’s examples: Wi-Fi credentials changed, or poor cell reception. SunStrong notes the system may still be producing solar power even though monitoring can’t show it.

Common causes

  • New router, changed Wi-Fi name or password
  • The system relied on cellular reporting, which SunStrong stopped supporting on April 15, 2025
  • Wi-Fi only on 5 GHz — SunStrong supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only

What you can safely do (SunStrong’s listed steps)

  1. Check your home internet (PVS5 guide). If other devices are online, move on. If not, SunStrong suggests restarting your router (unplug for about 10 seconds, wait 15 minutes, refresh the app) and calling your internet provider if it stays down.
  2. PVS5 with an Ethernet adapter: plug the adapter directly into a wall outlet (not a power strip or surge protector), connect it to the router, check that all three lights on the adapter are lit, and wait 15 minutes.
  3. Re-enter your Wi-Fi in the SunStrong Connect app (Profile → Wi-Fi / System Connection settings), choosing a 2.4 GHz network.
  4. Still offline after 24 hours? The problem is likely the monitoring unit, its power or wiring, or the system itself — that’s the point to have a technician look.

SunStrong’s guide also describes switching the solar and monitoring breakers off and on. How SunPower systems are wired varies from home to home — on some, the solar connects through a separate disconnect rather than clearly labelled breakers — so we don’t recommend a breaker reset unless your panel has breakers clearly labelled for the solar system and the monitoring unit. If you’re not sure, or a breaker is tripped or won’t stay on, leave it to a technician. Never remove the breaker panel cover.

When to call a professional

  • The monitoring unit shows no lights at all.
  • The app reconnects but shows panels red (“power production stopped”) or grey for days.
  • Your utility bill suggests the system isn’t producing, whatever the app says.
  • The monitoring unit or its wiring is damaged, or the breakers keep tripping.

In those cases the problem is likely beyond the internet connection — a failed monitoring unit, wiring, or a microinverter or inverter problem.

How it’s usually fixed

Some “offline” cases are fixed on the network side: new Wi-Fi credentials, a 2.4 GHz network, or an Ethernet connection. When that’s not enough, a technician checks the monitoring unit’s power and wiring and the system’s actual production, then repairs or replaces what’s failed. If the system has stopped producing, the cause is diagnosed at the equipment level.
